I'm not a massive drinker
At most I drink once or twice a week.
Of course this will be at odds with people who've seen me at bashes where I inevitably get off my face.

even those few drinks have an effect
unless you counter it by eating lower calorie stuff on the days surrounding it.

I found it hard to lose any weight (not that I tried) before leaving uni. Wasn't till afterwards I joined the gym for a few months, then stopped that I started losing weight. I probably only have a few beers a week now, but can pretty much eat whatever and still slowly but surely am losing weight. I'm probably 3 stone lighter than at the end of uni.

I'd get into exercise, but I'm very listless at the moment.
And I don't exactly feel comfortable with jogging/walking in the area I'm in now :/

I'm not built for running/jogging and find it incredibly boring
you've got find something that suits you. Needs to be convenient, not painful, and interesting enough to do it at least a couple of times a week, if not more.

I'm not a natural runner
So I try and mix it up a little. I do a lot of cycling, swimming and chop and change routines at the gym.

Swimming is excellent, it's brilliant for your cardio fitness and doesn't knacker your joints.

^this
I can recommend surfing as well. Never done anything that works out so much of your body all at once.

Plus, it is fucking awesome fun.

That's why I chose cycling
(although I've not done it in a few weeks...) because it wasn't hard on my knees.

I want to go and swim in the lido at the Serpentine.
When/if the weather picks up...

...It's August
It's only ever going to get chillier.

You're best served at the local pool where there's lanes and you can set yourself targets - ie six lengths in one session, six lengths without stopping etc.

Swimming burns calories like very little else provided you're using the right technique.

I'm well-insulated :D
I'll find out where it is, but seeing as I'm in Saaaf London it'll be nasty as fuck.

or trampolining
a friend of mine lost three stone over five months when he took it up regularly

Our fucking garden's on a fucking slope :(
otherwise we'd have one.
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 15:41, Reply)
Don't you own a bike?
Brilliant way to get fit.
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 15:42, Reply)
I need to sort my mrs out with a bike so we can ride together
as it is I only ever ride to work, which is 10-15 minutes as fast as I can up and down steep hills, which puts me off doing it.
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 15:45, Reply)
I'm the girl that never learned to ride one.

(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 15:51, Reply)
I can't ride one anymore :(

(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 15:57, Reply)
my ex couldn't
but I suspect that was because of her short little legs
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 16:03, Reply)
haha
that's quite funny. It's because I can't feel my feet, which could be quite dangerous

we have a big one in our garden at home
but a massive one at uni. It might be worth checking out early morning sessions at your local sports centre. If you do go, remember to wear the strongest bra you can find

I've started eating more healthily
Nowhere near as much processed food or take out, cutting down on booze, and snacking on fruit and carrots whenever I'm peckish. No change yet, but it's early days.
