In truthI'd rather read a history book than pretend to be Genghis Khan on a computer - it just seems silly to me, I'm afraid.

Civ has an awful lot of reading involved if you want to,every major discovery in human history has a massive entry on it's effects. All the wonders of the world you can build have a ton of background information in them.
I bet if you stopped thinking "this is silly" for an hour or two you'll enjoy it.
Plus you can get it for like £5 if you look around.
