Didn't Lego recently lose the exclusive rights to produce those bricks?If so then the cost should fall.
You can get some nice old-school Lego sets which are purely bricks, no wheels or anything. Problem is the kids will still scream for the one with the picture of the cool car on the box that they'll complete in about an hour then never return to again.
