There was a programme a few years ago which I think only ran for one series. I think it was called 'Lost' and it was a kind of a gameshow where they took three teams of two people and dropped them off somewhere remote on the planet. Their goal was to get back to Trafalgar Square by any means necessary. A lot of the time they had to rely on the kindness of strangers and it was really interesting to see how people fared. There were some really odd situations like where this team consisting of a gay couple tried to cross the Iran-Turkey border. Fun show.

edit: also, In The Night Garden is very soothing yet insane in a whimsical kind of way.
