Was the show called "Transmission"?A mate of mine went to the Bristol recording. He also said it was a long boring drawn-out affair, where you couldnt hear the interviews and the technicians would say to the crowd "We need 10 seconds of laughter....ok...go".

That sounds about right!But I seem to remember that being about actual signed bands?
