I refuse to get cable to avoid my kids sitting around staring at the TV all day. But when they do watch saturday morning cartoons, all they do is beg for whatever toy is being advertised. Drives me nutso.

No, my kids aren't deprived because they don't have 24/7 kids' TV. They actually play, use their imaginations, run, read, etc. And they aren't a bit overweight either.

Of course, they also do have more toys than your average toy store....but that is because their grandparents have far too much disposable income and free time.
