I sympathise. I even wrote to complain...
...after a newsreader on News 24 referred to alcohol and tobacco as "Fags and Booze." If he'd done it once I'd have given him the benefit of the doubt; we all make mistakes. But he kept saying it. Just because these colloquialisms are widely used, it doesn't mean they're proper English words. They are still colloquialisms. They are still slang. Please keep them out a news report which is potentially going out to the entire country.

I was only 21 when this happened. I despair for my state of mind in later life.
