This is a question The Police II

Enzyme asks: Have you ever been arrested? Been thrown down the stairs by the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad, with hi-LAR-ious consequences? Or maybe you're a member of the police force with chortlesome anecdotes about particularly stupid people you've encountered.
Do tell.

Most half-hearted raid ever
I used to live in a house converted into flats, and my window was on the first floor over the door.

About 4am, there was a banging on the front door, and I stuck my head out of the window only to see several policemen outside, with a dog team.

'Hello. Can you let us in please?'

So I put some trousers on and opened the front door.

'Thankyou sir. We're looking for Mr J. Smith. Does he live here?'
'Not that I know of'
'Okay. Mind if we ask the other flats?'
'Not at all.'

So he goes round to each door whilst the rest of them wait outside, and knocks, and everyone tells him they're not J. Smith.

'Alright then. Thanks for your help, sir!'

And I shut the door behind them and went to bed.

Now, I'm not claiming to be an expert in policing techniques, but that didn't seem too thorough to me.

Agreed
Poor.

"Mind if we ask the other flats?"? Could they get any more pussified?

Using a pretext to sniff for drugs?

Dunno
He didn't bring the dog in with him, so I doubt it.

I did ask a guy I know who was in the Met what might explain such a lacklustre search, and he reckoned that they were probably quite aware it was a false address and couldn't be bothered doing things properly.

Apparently it's quite common to spend the early morning going around several addresses looking for someone, and find that there's absolutely no trace at any of them, and they're all just false addresses.
