This is a question The Police II

Enzyme asks: Have you ever been arrested? Been thrown down the stairs by the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad, with hi-LAR-ious consequences? Or maybe you're a member of the police force with chortlesome anecdotes about particularly stupid people you've encountered.
Do tell.

Who'd have thought, I have two stories!
My old next door neighbour was a cunt. A no beating-around-the-bush liked-to-beat-women cunt.

One night I heard him having a drunken argument outside with his girlfriend, followed by the distinctive sound of him punching her in the face. Like I said, a real cunt. I called the police and, knowing how these things usuually work, I said that they were still in the street so that they'd have to turn up. A few minutes later, a police car arrives.

Usually in this situation they'd have a stern chat with the man but, unless the woman complains, they can't do much. Knowing this couple, she'd most likely insist that she fell on a doorknob and the guy would get off scott free. However, to my eternal delight, the sound of his doorbell ringing was followed shortly by a policeman yelling "Oi, put that down!" This was followed by the noises of a struggle, followed by "I'm arresting you for assaulting a police officer". This is usually taken a little more seriously than a mere "domestic" and he was promptly hauled off in the back of the police car.

Couldn't have happened to a nastier guy.

Thank you ...
for being brave enough to pick up that phone. I was in a similar situation once, i.e. big bastard neighbour beating the shit out of his missus with kids screaming in the background to leave her alone.

I went to the phone to call 999, and then the voice of cowardice spoke; "This is a semi detached house with only one shared wall. That violent fucker's going to know just fine it was you who grassed him up, and when the coppers have left, he'll come over and sort you out too."

So I didn't call. I am still very ashamed of this.

Unlurk

A family member of mine was beaten by a live-in lover. She didn't want to press charges. But the rozzers did. We were also told (turned out to be true) that if anything like that happened again the rozzers would press charges so she didn't have to.

Turns out, some of them are alright. Who'd ov thunk?

You're human.
Don't knock yourself, it's very easy for someone to say 'I would have...', but not so easy when there is a real possibility of harm coming your way.
Many would have done the same as you.

Not strictly true.

An officer, having been assaulted, will always put in a complaint/statement, and CPS will therefore be more likely to authorise charge and see it through to court, if necessary.

Whilst a victim of "domestic" will invariably have been assaulted 10-20 times before even ringing the police, and then may need a further 10 assaults before being willing to see a prosecution through to court. Without support from the victim (usually the only witness) the CPS is unlikely to even authorise the charge as a prosecution is unlikely.

As a side line - did you know that, in the course of their duties and according to recent legislation, an officer is not treated like a member of the public for many offences. They are expected to withstand far more in relation to physical and verbal abuse before being 'allowed' to arrest.

It's scot free
Scott Free is Mister Miracle from DC Comics.

Scot is an old word for tax.

Good on you for picking up the phone, btw.

EDIT: Ignore me - not only am I a contemptible spelling nazi, the interweb says that scott free is perfectly acceptable, so I'm also quite wrong.
