If your a student, write a letter of complaint to your vice chancellor about the contractors employment schemes. Write a letter to the head of the contractor. Also students have a very strong history of campaigning. Make it known around campus how badly contractors for the university treat their staff. Student newspapers and local newspapers love stories like this. Also you technically have squatters rights over the accommodation. They need to go through quite some lengthy legal processes to throw squatters out. Im sure there are lots of the other staff who feel the same way, collective action can really bring people like that down.
