When I was in Tokyo last month on the subwayA friend and I were made fun of (racially) by a pair of Akihabara kids in luminous tanktops, stripy tights bright green bobs.
Many Japanese assume as a foreigner you don't know what they are saying.
I asked them in Japanese what their problem was, they looked down, and got off at the next station.
