I Can Get That.
About your son. Some of the legal/political shit stinks in Britain. But it's the same the world over.
But I can't get you not wanting to be, or feeling, English/British.
For me, I'm Geordie (and that can be sub-divided into exact areas) first, then a Northerner, then English, then British, then European, and now a British ex-pat. I'm proud of all of them.
