Professions I Hate
Broken Arrow says: Bankers, recruitment consultants, politicians. What professions do you hate and why?

I work in business to business phone sales
In advertising (for business profile magazines)...
I love it, I make a very good living, my magazine is tip-top and I have a laugh each day.
However, if you missed it, I work on the phone, cold-calling businesses and selling advertising. My office is very similar in many ways to The Boiler Room (although my product is good quality, and legit).
Let the flaming begin...
(I shall enjoy reading it later, after I get home in my fully paid for new car (a Focus, not an Accord or anything flash), to my nice house and comfortable life, and my good looking and intelligent family)

So ...
weren't into education, then.
Personally I prefer the company of interesting people - how much they earn doesn't interest me.

Not really.
I did do a degree and HND but fell into Sales. It's not that intellectually demanding, but it's fun and the fact you have to be sharp and able to think on your feet makes it a challenge. You also get to speak to people all over the world, which can be fascinating (and frustrating). Also it means you have options with what to do in your spare time; there's no financial pressure. Money gives you options, and that makes life so much easier.
The only downside is the constant, immense pressure and stress and the fact I work from 0530 to 1630 (ish) Mon-Thurs, and 0600-1200 on Friday, and take calls in the evening. That and the fact you constantly have to be driven. Also the fact that if you're ever ill, or anything, you lose the majority of your income. And that a bad mood, or personal problems can decimate your figures.
On balance though, selling people things they don't know they need is a real buzz.

Hmmm. You use the word "fascinating"
and claim that having to be sharp and think on your feet is "a challenge".
You state that you have a degree.
You're a telephone salesman, and eschew the joy of money.
Like I said, I don't dig people who's earnings are a topic of conversation.

If this is an advertisement
promoting cold callers as just nice normal guys then it's a blatant failure.

actually
I manage a team of cold callers, business to business. I don't for one second believe we make the world a better place but every so often we reduce someones costs which means they can keep earning a living a little bit longer or not have to lay anybody off this year. If we didn't do it someone else would, and we all know everybody else is a cunt.
I was going to promote my business but like i said, i'm not a cunt

erm is this bragging?!
So, you work in sales, you work 50 hours a week, take your work home with you, can't take a sick day without suffering financially, drive a Ford Focus, and support your family?
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'RE MEDIOCRE

It's not your job
it's your bragging about your pointless existence that makes look a bit of a nob.
