Thanks SpankyYou've just reminded me of one ignominious morning spent pretending to be a well-'ard joiner when I was in fact an effete cabinetmaker.
We parted on good terms though:
"This isn't working is it?" said the gaffer.
"No. Not really. Shall I just go home?"
"Yes. I think that would be best."
"OK. Thanks anyway." [skulks off, relieved]
