This is a question Rubbish Towns

I once went to Basildon. It was closed, I got chased by a bunch of knuckle-dragged yobs until I was lost in a maze of concrete alleyways and got food poisoning off pie. Tell us about the awful places you've visited or have your home.

Thanks to SpankyHanky for the suggestion

Leicester.
I have only just got back from my little 'business trip' (read: sorting out the shit - not literally - my ex-colleagues left in the Leicester office when they were made redundant in September) to Leicester.

I had vague memories of it being grey and depressing, 15 or so years later, it hasn't changed. The first thing I saw upon walking out of the train station was someone shooting up. At 9.15 in the morning. Whilst I was in the former building (alone), a gang of youths were peering in the windows, seeing what was left. Upon seeing me they buggered off, the cheeky bastards.

Don't go to Leicester, it's a shithole full of druggies and cheeky fucking wannabe robbers.

Excuse me, I'm going to go and wash Leicester off me now.

If you're a christian...
...it's actually pretty good: loads of local clubs and groups full of pleasant, smiling, uni-educated god-botherers. And it's not all *that* rough, generally speaking. Otherwise, yeah - it's a bit shit.

I agree
I used to go there once a month for business and would always jump at the chance to do so - great food, some decent pubs, and generally quite good! Plus they're banging load of money into redevelopment!

Well...
I'm back there next week, so I may go with more of an open mind and less fear, as I was going to!

To be fair
The bit immediately outside the station is rather grim.

But of all the places I've lived in it'd probably be one of the nicest, which says it all I think.

leicester
I live there, semi reluctantly..
it has its share of trouble with chavs, drugs and crime, but on a whole its well and truely on the lesser of the evils scale compared to other places ive lived.. ie: Sunderland (guurgh ! smack city..).

the night clubs however are shit & under invested in. its got a huge choice of pubs and takeaways however. so if beers your thing, you'll probably consider it a good night out.

The shopping facility's in the town have exploded in epic proportions; to the point where the locals couldnt possibly bring enough business to them to keep them going; its just loos leader bill boards for companies & a council with an inferiority complex over birminghams shopping facilitys a train ride away.

When you get out of the city, into the suburbs, with exception of the council estates, its actually one of the safest places you could live (south prominently white middle class, north prominently Asian & European).
its the sort of place that bible bashers bring their kids to bring them up, and for that its probably quite good.

but its principle crime is that it is so 'safe' its BORING AS HELL.. Which makes other citys seem far more intriguing, its no wonder they have problems keeping young people in leicester, places like london with all their issues seem like a riot of fun; partly why i go down there so often.
