Yup, that's why I called it referral bollocksBut I have got goodies out of it, just for testing a few sites out (Lovefilm, Blockbuster Online, DoND Bingo etc) and it's saved me alot. Got the 3DS for literally £20ish (come to think of it I won £22 when I tested that too, so it cost me fuck all lol).
With the site I done there's 2 sides to it, either refer which is basically a pyramid scheme to get credits or just test out the 3rd party sites instead, either or is applicable.
