I think a true gentleman is a rare but fine thing these days...however, a gentleman knows that it isn't about 'needing' these things done, but it being a nice and polite gesture, things I (being a woman) would also do.
And the hand kissing thing really IS creepy, not to mention uncomfortable, unless you already know someone and are sure they wouldn't mind.
