In fact, in studies of convicted paedophiles in New England many of the subjects progressed from child porn to real offences (the average time from 1st viewing child porn to molesting their first actual child was just under a year).
I guess the process goes: whet the appetite: fantasise about children - Seek visual stimulus of children being molested when fantasy is no longer enough - molest children when the porn ceases to stimulate you sufficiently (ie when you've seen it all, and now want to do it)
