Personally, I've never ever smoked a cigarette. Lung damage from pneumonia put me off.

As a lifetime non-smoker...I have to say that I agree with you, and opposed the smoking-in-pubs ban.
Plus I've been known to spend a large proportion of a night outdoors in the smokers bit just sat chatting- it's so much nicer!
