I tax and MOT my vehicles on all sorts of dates, often late, due to poor planning. Doing it one the same date every year for five years on the trot requires quite good (albeit unnecessary and borderline autistic) planning.

It's not like they send you a reminder telling you to buy your tax at some point in the next month,and your MOT certificate comes with a nice little sticker you can pop on the windscreen with the due date of the next one, so you've got plenty of warning, and again a month-long "do it when you can fit it in" period.
