(But I'd do exactly the same. Humans I can be a right bastard to sometimes, but dogs turn me into Mother Teresa.
For the separation problem, try giving her an old smelly coat. One that you don't use amymore and hasn't been dry-cleaned. If there's enough of your scent she may use it as a security blanket.
