This is a question Stupid Colleagues

Godwin's Lawyer tells us: "I once worked with a lad who believed 'Frankenstein' was based on a true story, and that the book was written by Shirley Bassey." Tell us about your workplace dopes.

Mrs Stone
A (thankfully) ex-colleague of mine was one day very, very annoyed with some language software she'd ordered online. Incensed. She'd had it over a month and she still couldn't converse fluently in her chosen language.

"Why don't you write them a letter of complaint?", I suggested.

And so she did. It started like this:

"Dear Mrs Rosetta Stone..."

/edit and that's all I have. Other than the story of a colleague who used beans as a lubricant, but I'm saving that one.

or indeed
a large stone with writings in three different languages on, enabling us to decipher for the first time, ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, the name of which has somewhat cleverly been lifted for use on a computer based educational tool aimed at teaching a new language to the purchaser.

it's an affliction
I'm currently seeking counselling.

If you could point me in the direction of an irreverant comedy website I'm sure the patrons would be the people best placed to help me.

It was the key to deciphering Greek
You see, we knew what these hieroglyph things were, all very lovely, and next to some was some dodgy text, so they assumed 'oh, that must be the same shit as the hierogylphs, just differently written, it all looks a bit Egypt-y anyway.' So they went about turning that into words, all very easy, and then they spend the next 40 years using right proper nouns from the written Egyptian to try and decode all that Greek mumbo jumbo that nobody knew anything about.

Science.

science indeed

To be fair, I used to think this
I was constantly amazed at how many languages Mrs Stone spoke. She must be some kind of super awesome helpful word-witch! Then I turned 8, and the world became just a little less magical.
