I remember reading in those school science text booksthat a young lady can break her hymen riding ponies. There wern't many of those knocking round in Coventry when I was a kid, so I imagine the girls I used to go to school with left with their sacred passages intact... Well, except for the four girls in my year who were heavily pregnant, of course.
