You were lucky...to have a face to pour the drink on. When I were a lad we used to have to survive on one minute's sleep a fortnight, then go and clean t'roads wi' nowt but our tongues (including slipways, mind), for a ha'penny a year.
And the only time we got to go home was to get w'fathers to flay our faces off with the back of an old angry cat, and we'd pay him tuppence f'privilege.
