did the same with my appendix.

I miss that apparently defunct anatomical oddity... every time I see the scar I'm reminded that a small, useless piece of me will forever be missing.

what does it do exactly...?

I mean, i know what the tonsils do..they help with the immune system, but I don't have a clue what the appendix does...maybe it also has something to do with the immune system

I've always been told that it used to be there for digesting grasses and other vegetation that we're unlikely to eat nowadays.

It worked insofar as it stopped the nine year old me worrying that a part of my body had been hacked off.

It also stopped me ever eating grass (not sure that I would have done otherwise) as a kid... I was too worried what might happen if my body had no means of digesting it.

I was a slow and gullible child who eventually grew up to become a slow and gullible adult!
