This is a question Tightwads

There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

That is just plain stupidity.
If I'm going to have my car worked on by someone else (admittedly doesn't happen very often) I tend to do as much research as I can on the internet first. That way I know what will need doing and a rough idea of how much it should cost.

If he'd bothered to do the slightest bit of research he'd know that the tensioner needed replacing. His fault, or the mechanic's?

Well you're clearly more sensible then engekomkommer
I've decided the original post was in fact a story about him!

Even my sister would probably know you have to have the tensioner replaced at the same time, and she genuinely thought until a few months ago (when I was in a car with her) that the sun visor was only for doing your make up in.
