This is a question Unemployed

I was Mordred writes, "I've been out of work for a while now... however, every cloud must have a silver lining. Tell us your stories of the upside to unemployment."

You can tell us about the unexpected downsides too if you want.

I'm about as qualified
as the average sea cucumber and can't even get a job at Tesco. The last time I went in there I had to explain to the checkout monkey how to read a date of birth.

Jesus H. Christ and his black bastard brother Barry, they'll employ people who can't *read*, but not me?

Same
I've been rejected from Tesco's twice, once when they were openly recruiting and practically begged me to apply. This is despite being more polite, intelligent (obviously) and productive than all the staff I've ever come across there. Still, maybe third time lucky..

Well
It's possibly because you're over qualified - if you can tell them how to read a date of birth, you should clearly be applying for a supervisor position, or explaining in the interview or initial application that you've got a lobotomy planned within a month of the start date if you get the job....

If it makes you feel better, I suspect many of us here have been deemed unworthy by the big supermarkets ;)
