This is a question Starting something you couldn't finish

Finnbar says: I used to know a guy who tattooed LOVE across his left knuckles, but didn't tattoo HATE on the other knuckles because he was right-handed and realised he couldn't finish. Ever run out of skills or inspiration halfway through a job?

Brighton Poly BSc (hons) Pharmacy
Passed first year with flying colours, without doing very much work.

Slept in for too many labs in second year. Passed a few exams, but failed the rest, including Dispensing (the easiest one).

Stayed in Brighton that Summer, tried to find a job and fit in some study. Took the exams again that August; if I failed, I'd have to resit the whole year. Passed a few more this time (there were 6 or 7 altogether), but still failed most of them, including dispensing.

Resat entire second year not getting a bean in grants and, this being the 1980s when were overdrafts were anathema to banks, let alone "student loans", had to working full time (around college hours i.e. around a 70 hour week) to pay rent and fees and racking up over a grand of debt. Barely went out all year. My father died in the January. My girlfriend dumped me because she didn't kmow how to deal with a grieving boyfriend. Come May/June, I failed only two exams - physical chemistry and dispensing (again).

I resat them again at the end of summer, passing all of them this time. Except dispensing (again).

Dispensing was the only exam that they insisted you had to pass before they'd let you through to the final year. (Sensibly, because it's what you end up doing for a living as a Pharmacist, and getting it wrong can kill patients.)

So I left Brighton and went back to live with my mum in Wales.

No funnies, but at least I'm not hiding behind "housemate" or "friend" is academic failure - I am an academic failure.

I quit my science degree
After having a bit of a hard time of it personally, I didn't turn up to many lectures, including assessed lab practicals.

At exam time, I walked in and passed all the exams, but didn't pass because I couldn't retake the missed lab practical stuff (as you might an exam). If I'd done English or History or some book learnin' degree, I'd have been fine...
