This is a question Starting something you couldn't finish

Finnbar says: I used to know a guy who tattooed LOVE across his left knuckles, but didn't tattoo HATE on the other knuckles because he was right-handed and realised he couldn't finish. Ever run out of skills or inspiration halfway through a job?

Most classic films...
I have to admit I have hardly seen any of the classics. Scarface, nope. The Godfather, Again no. Resevoir Dogs, any batman film or anything based on a superhero or comic for that matter. No star wars for me. The problem isn't so much that I don't want to watch them it's more that every one else has already seen them. So you sit down to watch a film and you get comments like "this part is awesome" and "wait until you see this". It kinda ruins it for me. And I suppose I could watch them on my own, but that's just boring. So I end up starting them and never finishing them.

I finally managed to watch the whole of Pulp Fiction in 2008 after about 8 aborted attempts. Only because I was forced to sit down by a mate who was aghast that I hadn't seen it. It only took me 4 years to watch Apocalyse now and that was by breaking it down into manageable chunks. I actually have a fairly hefty DVD wallet of films I have yet to watch. I think I have about 100 films that I still have to see that I have been collecting over the last 10 yrs or so. Every now and again I would get some £3 deal in asda or HMV and my collection was considerably bolstered by my trip to Thailand.

I really think I need to stop buying films...

I'm with you
I've got Gone with the Wind on a 2 sided DVD.
Never did get round to watching side 2.

I thought
Godfather II was SHITE until I realised I hadn't watched the second disc. Long enough to fool you.

this is not anyones elses fault
you have attention defecit disorder as evidenced by being easily distracted and your buying films without watching suggests mild obsessive compulsive behaviour.
See a shrink or just accept that's the way it is or better still just watch a film on your own.

I concur with your appraisal of the experience of watching films with others who have already seen them.
I have given up watching films with any member of my family, since they all seem to feel obliged to let me know slightly in advance when something is going to be funny, clever or 'weird'. Usually, the act of informing me takes place so shortly before the hallowed event as to blot out the set up for the funny, clever or 'weird' part and render it incomprehensible. I then insist on the disc being rewound so I can watch it again, only to find that it was crap anyway.

Oh god people that do that need to be shot.
"Oh watch this bit it's hilarious!"

I think (fashionable opinions aside) that it's testament to the American remake of The Ring that I was able to enjoy it, having never seen it or the original before, despite watching it in the same room as a flamboyantly gay alcoholic, who, having consumed two bottles of wine, was screaming "OH MY GOD I HATE THIS BIT I HATE THIS BIT OH GOD I CAN'T WATCH IT!" and the like, throughout.

You just need
to apply our house rule.
"Shut the fuck up when the film's on".
After it's over, discussion is encouraged, but anyone who opens their fat gob during a movie gets thumped.
