Starting something you couldn't finish
Finnbar says: I used to know a guy who tattooed LOVE across his left knuckles, but didn't tattoo HATE on the other knuckles because he was right-handed and realised he couldn't finish. Ever run out of skills or inspiration halfway through a job?

Ah, Ph.D days...
They were awesome. Being a post-doc is sort-of better as at least you don't have to work to a dealine and can somehow convince the postgrads to do your work for you...

My students won't do my work for me :(

I tell you what's really scary though
When, as a new PI, a fresh faced 22 year old walks in the lab and you suddenly realise...
they're your first PhD student and you are responsible for them for the next four years
Mine has his progress interview in a week and a half and I think I'm more nervous about it than he is!
