I'm sure somebody who knows about these things could elucidatebut it seems to me that the first and most important reason for money is the creation and maintenance of central control via a treasury and taxation. It also allows the central power to spend the value of it's treasure, while keeping the treasure, which is a neat trick.
It's very handy in day to day use, but we'd get buy without money, it's them who'd be fucked. The ruling classes...the lizard people...them.
