Does conduction really speed up the process?
I wouldn't have thought having hot spikes in it would make a potato cook any quicker?

Using a fork works a lot better than a skewer
Spreads the conducted heat out better inside the potato. Just don't do what I did the one time I employed this technique and immediately pull the fork out with your hand when you take it out of the oven.
