I witnessed a crime
Freddy Woo writes, "A group of us once staggered home so insensible with drink that we failed to notice someone being killed and buried in a shallow grave not more than 50 yards away. A crime unsolved to this day."
Have you witnessed a crime and done bugger all about it? Or are you a have-a-go hero?
Whatever. Tell us about it...

Off-license robbery
At the off-license opposite my house, I witnessed somebody walking towards it while openly brandishing a small handgun.
I immediately called the police (the local police station is actually only in the next road) and notified them of what I saw, and told them that if they were quick, they could catch them in the act.
I peered through my net curtains, and watched and waited, and waited, and waited.....
and waited....
and waited....
and waited....
and waited....
what was the fucking point of calling the police?
and waited...
and waited...
And after an hour the police arrived.
Of course, by his time the robbery had happened, and finished, and they had gone.

Quite sensible if you ask me.
Honestly, What would you do if somebody rang you and told you a man with a gun walked into an off license? Would you:
A. Catch the robber in the act. Risk getting shot, or others shot, over a few hundred quid.
B. Give it an hour or two. Go to the shop, comfort the owner, watch the CCTV tapes, and catch the guy who done it, getting the money back.

Ooh
Well pointed out there, I hadn't thought of that.
There's still a definite trend of lax police response though

Sensible maybe...
...but then, I'm a web developer. If I was a rozzer I would hope I would be slightly less averse to catching bad guys. FFS.
