This is a question Workplace Boredom

There's got to be more to your working day than loafing around the internet, says tfi049113. How do you fill those long, empty desperate hours?

Handicap University Challenge
I used to work in a call centre of a major insurance company, it was dull, mind numbing work, and I received that "Pointless Letters" Book for Christmas. So I jumped on the bandwagon, and started writing letters to various people. Mainly TV stations, asking when Gamesmaster is returning.

I wrote a long prose about an idea for "Handicap University Challenge", where stupid universities/polytechnics have more team members than Oxbridge. In a blockbusters stylee.

I got a response:-

So not only did I bore myself at my job, I probably bored somebody at the BBC.

Gotta love customer relations.
Pinging the same words back at you that you used, am I right?

Yeah
Basically.

Though I didn't mention money. They just assumed I was some cash grabbing whore.

They probably didn't assume that about you personally
It'd be a form letter that some poor sod has to add the specifics to. That paragraph is likely included because they assume that at least some of the people who write in are cash grabbing whores, or will at least have a go if their idea gets used. I'm just surprised they even bother with any reply at all.

I recently
read a book by a fella on the Isle of Man who, out of boredom, fired off hundreds of such letters and published them and the replies.
"the wind-up letters" was the name of it.

That's kinda where I got it from
I got the book for christmas that year, so I really should blame it. Though I couldn't remember the name, hence the lack of mention
