This is a question Workplace Boredom

There's got to be more to your working day than loafing around the internet, says tfi049113. How do you fill those long, empty desperate hours?

"Not me but a mate"...
... in 24-hour cornershop hell.

With the supervisor keys to the till.

Which had the admin key on the same keyring. And the user manual in the stock room.

So, you know how they display the product descriptions for the item you just scanned, and print it on the receipt? What happens when you leave two bored, stoned, Viz-reading students in charge?

You get receipts with "ARSE WIPE" instead of "Toilet Tissue", "FANNY PADS", "CANCER STICKS", "PIKEY CIDER", "TRAMP JUICE", etc. for about a week, before some hacking wheezing pikey munter comes in and complains.

Length? Depends how long you old "PAPER FEED".

Sorry to say
But I'm pretty sure this isn't true.

The descriptions on the tills aren't controlled by the tills themselves but by a central computer either on site or at another location.

Sorry...

Good story tho

God I'm bored

Not strictly true
The shop I work in (part time) has an EPOS system which allows changes to the free-text descriptions and other details on the receipts. Can't modify cost/markups/prices or product codes but we can change a lot of the other bits on the printout :)

Bit of a sweeping generalisation there
He didn't say whether it was an independent shop or not...

I used to work in a small shop
that was 1 site, and had all its product information stored on a computer in the office in this way.

I'm pretty sure it is...
... having worked on EPOS systems for rather more years than I care to recall.

(long and boring explanation of standalone vs. client-server EPOS systems mercifully cut).

More importantly
why would anyone bother making this up?

it's amusing if true, but making it up would be pointless

To be fair
it was a sweeping generalisation and as stated I was bored...

and I only ever worked in 1 large store!
