Doesn't the group stage count as the first stage, therefore meaning we crapped out at the 2nd stage?

...in Australia, the England rugby team were beating the national team, at home, something they haven't done south of the Equator since the 2003 final, the year before a World Cup for proper sportsmen (not cheats, spoiled brats and crybabys) and the soccer-obsessed media barely mentioned it.
2011 is when the only World Cup worth paying attention to takes place.
