Not drinking, smoking or doing drugs
And as the post above, it's not about self-harm. You're thinking emo.

good god.
How terribly dull. Why not just do things in moderation, to show you have some control?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:39, archived)
yay
also: and sometimes do a lot, just to prove you can?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:43, archived)
indeed
you can't find out what is enough without first establishing what is too much..

Because it's not actually a decision on how to live her life
it is an infantile pose to compensate for a lack of an actual personality.

Wrong
It's a bid to try and be healthy, as I feel like shit lately.

I don't think other people should do it unless they want to. I wouldn't look down on anybody for drinking/being off their face/smoking. That's being hypocritical!

No. If you'd wanted to be healthy you would have said 'I'm going on a health kick'
what you actually said was "I am joining some half-arsed puritanical teenage movement that condemns booze and drugs aren't I the fucking cool one I used to be dead hard and do drugs but now I'm even harder because I don't".

There's a wiki article on it.
It's utter guff. Complete shite. And, as always, you, Shambolic, my hero, are right.

Oh stop it ... you're making my winkle go all stiff.

(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:07, archived)
that
and also, if you look properly at the medical stats the government use, being teetotal is worse for you healthwise than any level of alcohol consumption up to about 50 units a week. You don't tend to get doctors telling you that though.

So it's a pretty poor health kick.

I want to be you.

I've done a few straight edge gigs
recently. One of them had some very far right overtones.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:54, archived)
gigs?
People collectively attend this sort of thing?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:59, archived)
Oh yes.
Skinheaded punks mostly. Easily led chumps, the lot of them.

Straight Edge is a life style choice
which I have not got any problems with. Each to their own and all that. A lot of Straight Edge bands are Hardcore Punk and metal, Oi and god knows what else. Most of the people I've come across have been on the far left, anarchy and all that but there are a couple of subsections who are far right. There's also Hardline which takes straight edge further.
