You can't die!
Who will there be to remember if you kill yourself?

I've got awful fret buzz on the 2nd string and wondered if raising the bridge on that side of the neck just a little will cause tuning problems?
Or to summarize, should I just take it to a professional to get setup properly?

what kind of guitar is it?
If the rest of the strings are fine it's probably just a fret jutting out a little higher than the others, and it's a bit laborious but fairly simple to fix frets.

I sometimes get a little buzz on the 3rd fret but that I can handle, the 2nd string buzz is constant. As Enigmatic pointed about below it's weird it doesn't happen with the 1st string.

All I play are Les Pauls :)
It might be the saddle slidey thing* that the string is sitting on at the bridge, the string might have cut down a little deep into it.
Either that or the nut has been cut down a bit by string movement, which is unlikely, but can still happen.
I'd get it taken to a pro if it's a Gibson, you have to treat them well - and if someone's set it up really nicely, they're a wet dream to play.
*the slidey thing, y'know. Official terminology.

Appreciate the advice as it's my second but I much prefer this one, I'm giving the first to my father.
This one is a lot easier to play with my sausage hands so I want to keep some of the action but remove the fret buzz!

if they're set up nicely and the tune o matic is correct across all the strings, they're awesome bits of kit.

then fiddle with the tune-o-matic bits to make sure it's all in tune across the fretboard.
then turn it up to 11 and totally rock out dude.

So I'm almost back to stage one of learning to play again :(
I'll take it to a pro, I know someone at work who can get me it on the cheap with someone reputable. He tried making me swap my Gibson SG with an el cheapo Ibanez hollowbody. I think not my friend!

isn't there a Gibson shop in San Fran?

Guitar Center is the place to be. It's HEAVEN.
