what,
the minimum wage applies to everybody. "Cheap foreign labour" is usually when it's outsourced to India.

No no, using illegal immigrants for your work force and paying them less than minimum wage is legal under the current Labour government.

(, Wed 27 May 2009, 18:46, archived)
illegal immigration is legal?
what?
It's not legal to employ illegal immigrants on ANY wage.

You didn't understand my post.
I was being sarcastic.

I erred on the side of caution.

(, Wed 27 May 2009, 18:49, archived)
... surely caution would put you on the side of not thinking I'm a complete moron.
surely hopefully

I thought the cautious line here
would be to make that point as clear as possible, for a certain individual.
(, Wed 27 May 2009, 18:53, archived)
That's the ridiculously optimistic line.

I shouldn't worry, he's shit.

Did you not see the headlines?
They made me laugh
(, Wed 27 May 2009, 18:51, archived)
Any particular paper?
Yes, sometimes newspaper headlines can be very funny. Often because they are the completely deranged rantings of a madman with a grudge, with all the grammar taken out.
(, Wed 27 May 2009, 18:54, archived)
Could have been either the Daily Express
Or some London paper.

It was purely the headline. I don't bother reading those.

Jesus

This is certainly true in theory.
In practise, there are a number of unscrupulous employers and agencies who deliberately hire workers with a poor grasp of English so that they can exploit them, paying them less than the minimum, or even charge them for work. These are usually big (multi-)national companies, e.g. Dominos.

Personally I'd prefer tigher auditing and tougher penalties, but like any other prohibitive law, it would still be circumvented; some poor bastards with no crime other than some dodgy book-keeping would get whacked with the full punishment while the real criminals would still flout the law with bare-faced cheek, because they can afford to hire the best lawyers.

Yeah someone will always break the rules
even if it was the BNP who had made the rules.

Anyway I reckon it's all the immigrants leaving that's crashed our economy in the first place.
