It's an anime about a special forces unit
that has robotic armour based on alien technology, and there's this alien artifact that threatens to destroy Neo Tokyo again, and the lead character is a teenage girl who escapes from the bad guys, and she's got special powers she hasn't learnt how to control yet, and a talking cat.

why's it always NeoTokyo? Is that the only tourist map available to hugely destructive mecha, or is it just handy for the crash site?
