
He tried to justify this later, still in 2002 here, by saying that he's an academic, but frankly, being an academic means you should know how to user a dictionary.
He's now trying to brush over this, and a couple of other howlers, by saying that everyone should ignore everything he said before he declared he ewas running for President, which is fucking bizarre.
Oh, and he said that McAleese was the first president "from a nationalist background."
Which is only true if you ignore every other President we've had.
