maybe

B&Q seem to think they can make everything sound cheaper
by putting the word "only" in front of all the prices.

See also car ads that refuse to use the word "Thousand" in their prices.

No-one uses the word 'thousand' any more, it's all "Save £1000's", this language is going to the dogs, I tell you

That's not what I mean.
Listen to any car ad these days and they'll say something like "On the road from only four nine ninety nine."
(, Sun 26 Jun 2011, 19:40, archived)
Nah, they always end in five nowadays.
Dunno why they can't just round it up.
'Buy [insert new car here] for eight grand.'
(, Sun 26 Jun 2011, 19:56, archived)
Because then the sheeple would realise exactly how much money they're being fleeced of. And that THE MAN is CONTROLLING them by BRAINWASHING them into thinking that they need a new car,

It does work, though.
I mean, everybody understands that £7999 is essentially eight grand. But despite the fact you know that, it somehow still seems significantly cheaper. Our brains is pretty fick.

No it doesn't.
Silly Byter.

It occurred to me yesterday that there may be another reason that people started doing this.
I had bought some things in a shop and it came to £31.96, and I thought "ah that's because I've bought four things!" So you know straightaway if you've been charged for the right number of items.

Most people don't tend to buy four cars at a time, though.
(, Sun 26 Jun 2011, 20:10, archived)
Yeah, most people buy cars in fives.

Whenever I see "save £££'s!"
I read "save three pounds"

Yeah, but in all fairness you are a wronger.
