Why on earth would you give up your own flat to live with someone else's mum?

She's gone from working to benefits and back to working
Which has messed her rent payments up. The idea was to stay at my mum's to save money, pay off the arrears and get a better place.

Ah, I see
A friend of mine moved back in with her mum so she could save up for a new place. I warned her that if she did that, she'd never leave. 10 years and counting.

we moved in with my parents for a month or so when we bought our house, it was brilliant
hoping to move in with them again if we go ahead with our extension

I could never move back in with my parents
18 years of having my own place and I'm not giving it up
