anyone here use a pi-hole?I've installed it all and tried to configure it but all the guides I can find seem to miss bits out or assume I know more than I do (which is 'very little')

No.If you want to block malware, use Cloudflare DNS on your main router. 1.1.1.2 and 1.0.0.2.
If you want to block NSFW too, change that 2 to 3.
For no blocking, just fastness, use 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1.
Quad9 offer similar DNS filtering options.
For ads, you will just have to read up more on Pi-Hole, or make your own router with something like pfSense.
