the worst bit for me was the frenetic energy of the dubbed english voices trying to keep within the movements of the animated mouthsit all felt so rushed, and those reaction vocalisations like 'huh?!' noises he always made seemed really false so I couldn't engage emotionally with the plot

A counter argument to this might perhaps be that the struggle of the overdub artists to synch with the original voice track is itself emblematic of the challenges of dogs attempting to live as humans in C18th France. (

In an extensive career he appeared in many roles on stage, television, film and radio, as well as various audio books, voiceovers, concert readings and other work. He garnered a following through his numerous appearances in cult sci-fi series such as Doctor Who, Sapphire & Steel and Blake's 7, as well as dubbing the titular character in the series Monkey and Legolas in the classic BBC Radio 4 adaptation of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
