‘ve just downloaded a birdsong app and it tells you what's singing. it turns out I am experiencing this as a mixed blessing. Much like learning another language, when the beautiful hazy mystery of all the words around you resolves into HALF PRICE CHOPS and DON'T PARK HERE and so on, now, instead of hearing the sounds without literacy, I say oh it's a chaffinch again
