This is a link post Tim Michin's 'Storm'
It's been 18 months since this was posted and I haven't seen it - so there. *Raspberry*

This is a normal post One of the writers/producers behind this blocked me on Twitter when I said Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was good.

This is a normal post And your point is?

This is a normal post None really. Just thought it was an amusing anecdote.

This is a normal post Is it any good?
It has been on my LoveFilm list for absolutely ages but, alongside the Wicker Tree, I'm not really sure I want them to ever send me it.

This is a normal post I liked it.
It gets thrown in with the Star Wars prequels in terms of undermining the previous films, but I don't think it was any less daft than Temple Of Doom. It doesn't quite have the iconic 'scary' moments of that film. Lots don't like it though.

This is a normal post it has a bit with a guy swinging through the trees like tarzan with cgi monkeys
they might have even used the tarzan noise, but I was too busy groaning like a spazz and slapping my hands over my eyes to be sure.

This is a normal post Oh dear.
That is basically why I didn't like Rise of The Planet of the Apes, and that didn't have the Tarzan guy in it.

This is a normal post Dear No. Don't do 'The Wicker Tree'
Just. No.

Don't.

Really.

/been there.

This is a normal post I have heard this said by everyone who has ever seen it.
There is another Wicker Man sequel coming out soon, I see...

This is a normal post I describe it as
Tintin, before Spielberg had secured the brand. If you watch a proper Indiana Jones film, then Crystal Skull, then Tintin, you'll see what I mean.

And the Tintin film was boss, and silly action sequences worked, because it's based on a cartoon.
(, Wed 6 Feb 2013, 14:48, Reply)
This is a normal post That's the difference I think. If it was animated like Tintin it would have been a lot more warmly received.
It helps that I don't hold the original films to my heart quite like many other people, so I viewed Crystal Skull fairly objectively and enjoyed it for what it was.

Tonally I don't think it was any less daft that the other films. And the aliens plot didn't bother me at all. No more outlandish than anything in the previous films.

Tim "IM REALLY CLEVER IM REALLY REALLY CLEVER" minchin.

i wouldn't like to be stuck at dinner with a barefooted eye-shadow wearing jazz wanker, who over-intellectualises everything.

This is a normal post He has a huge ego and comes over as a self-indulgent cunt in interviews.
I do, however, like his song about the pope.

This is a normal post wow
I thought I was alone on this one. Saw him live once. Awful sycophantic audience made me heave.
(, Wed 6 Feb 2013, 14:31, Reply)
This is a normal post Is that his fault, though?
Successful comedians usually get crowds who laugh at everything regardless, which can make it hard for the comic to judge their act.

Harry Hill was an amazing stand up in the 90s, but I imagine I couldn't enjoy a live show of his now due to the audience change.
(, Wed 6 Feb 2013, 14:35, Reply)
This is a normal post It was the type of audience though - they were so smug and middle class. It and him put me off.
And I saw Harry Hill live last year. He was great as was audience - a real mix of comedy fans and TV watchers.
(, Wed 6 Feb 2013, 14:45, Reply)
This is a normal post I understand that sort of feeling.
Took me a while to actually watch his work as a result of the image, the same with Russell Brand and the Mighty Boosh, but I think they are all good at what they do.

A sad one for me was watching Pulp the other year, who I've always loved, but whom the audience (at that gig, at least) seemed to be mostly people who remember the 90s rather than liked the band.

The audience is an important part of enjoying a live gig. Easy to admire someone like Daniel Kitson who tries to get the 'right' audience (but in doing so probably just ends up with a smug audience).

This is a normal post I'm with you on that
I agree with most of what he's saying, but his delivery is so unbearably smug I find myself becoming more reactionary as the show progresses.

This is a normal post I prefer Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Genuinely.
(, Wed 6 Feb 2013, 14:33, Reply)
This is a normal post I'd put them both
in the good box.

Nothing wrong with Gilbert O'Sullivan.

Peter Kay's Geraldine is the worst musical comedy act I can think of.

edit: Have made the Gilbert O'Sullivan / Gilbert and Sullivan mistake when writing the above. I am (thankfully?) unaware of Gilbert O'Sullivan's work.
(, Wed 6 Feb 2013, 14:43, Reply)
This is a normal post TV wise probably, yes.
As a (retired) musical comic though I've seen tons worse on the circuit. Including me.

edit - check out Gilbert - some of his early stuff before he got gloopy was OK.
