Hope you don't mind, I posted this a few weeks ago but it was an iPlayer link that a lot of people couldn't watch or bring themselves to! It's on PooTube now and seems to be going fairly well - certainly not viral but respectable.
It's my first major filmed project and was done for the BBC's WW1 Centenary coverage. Basically they had an idea to do an Epic Rap Battles/ Horrible Histories type thing to explain the origins of WW1 and get some younger people interested. Dan Snow's company Ballista Media had been chosen to make it and I got involved, and ended up co-writing the thing and composing / performing all the music. Oh and I did George V's voice as well.
Sorry again for the repost and the hint of spamcuntery. The Daily Mail were offended enough to write this article. (It was in the actual paper too. Seems I was Public Enemy Number One for a days or so)
I've slapped a NSFW on because of a couple of mild swearies. "Ass, shit" etc.
Good stuff ... that will be more of interest to many more young uns
Than a stuffy old documentary.

It was actually quite a buzz to read a few positive YouTube comments from youngsters.
One said "Awesome, why can't we learn history like this at school?" which was nice. Mind you most of the young 'uns were going "Gay! You ripped off Epic Rap Battles!" haha

This is really good
And I say that as a student* of war, and having recently read Margaret Macmillan's great book on the causes of WW1.
Not everything needs to be a six part narrative history or a Newsnight discussion on the war poets (like last night). There's a generation (several generations) of kids who don't know shit about the First World War, why it started and why it's important.
Anything that can explain that, be fun and, most importantly, be accurate gets a big click from me.
*Not being pompous here, actually have a worthless BA in War

Excellent.
And anything that makes the Mail pissy is OK with me.

Fantastic!
I work in a PRU and I'm teaching WW1 next term. I'd love to show them this as an cheeky bit of revision - they love rap battles. The fact that the Daily Mail hates it is an added bonus.
Well done, sir.

Great on so many levels.
Just the gramophone scratching alone...

Yeah the gramaphones were a lovely touch, they were the director's idea. Simon Balch, he a genius.

"attempt to court popularity with a streetwise audience" erm....yes. Why is that a bad thing? The Mail believes that only non-streetwise (?) people should be educated?
