The Battery That's Lasted 176 Years
The Oxford Electric Bell, which has rung (almost) continuously for 176 years. No-one is brave enough to dismantle the battery to identify exactly how it was made. It is estimated that the bells will wear out before the battery runs down.

Not surprised it is still going
probably a few thousand volts and very, very, very low current load.
Simple low voltage primary cells stacked into a massive pair of batteries.
I agree that mechanical failure will probably kill it before the batteries go flat.
Really puts a lot of modern battery powered devices to shame though.
Charging a watch every day? Really?

Lots of old films about motoring.
Mostly from the 1930s up to the '70s, but a few more recent ones as well.
Essentially just a load of YouTube links, but might be some interesting stuff if you like old cars and whatnot.

this track started that whole rap/beats sampling shit
the first time I heard this song *mind blown*
was a wee lad then. made me cry it was so good.
according to an interview with KRS One, this is what started that whole movement let's call it so. many people played their sets at the block parties in the Bronx back then and "nobody would let nobody look at they beats" (sic) meaning back in the day people would obscure the labels on the lps they played and KRS One was the first to spin this, a song/record which at the time nobody knew or remembered. it became an immediate sensation and well, the rest is sampling history.
back in like, I dunno, 2006-08-ish, I finally bought a US-pressing for $100+ because reasons. a little while later, this and their second album were on ebay, one of those rare garage finds, mint condition, still originally sealed etc. I killed the auction by pushing the bids to over $650 lol. I had made plans to have a custom frame made, you know, the lot. but I couldn't pay the shit! I had the money and all but the owner only accepted western fucking union for money transferring. FUCK YOU!!!!! I had the guy on the phone and other correspondence methods and after 2 months the auction became void. what a fucking bitch.
I only have about 2-3000 records :( I've spent too much on some of them. well not really. it's never too much I think.
anywho, ... all credit goes to The Shadows
also: the full album is one of those, no matter what the fuck, you will like it.
features a cover of in-a-gadda-da-vida by you know who. saw them live a few years ago, fuckin A
