Going crate digging here:
www.thevinylfactory.com/vinyl-factory-news/birmingham-record-store-to-sell-its-entire-stock-including-rarities-for-1-a-record/

I'm expecting it to be carnage.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 10:58, Reply)
That looks like fun.

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:04, Reply)
Indeed.
I suspect the savvy collectors will just pick up full boxes and buy them unseen.
He had some rare shit there.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:11, Reply)
I used to go to the bug record fair in oxford once in a while and just buy these closed box for 10 quid.
You got about 15 records and occasionally an absolute gem.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:14, Reply)
£1 each?
Bit expensive for coasters
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:10, Reply)
You ignorance doesn't impress anyone.

Vinyl is put forward as the holy grail of sound
It isn't.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:15, Reply)
It is.

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:16, Reply)
If, on the system tested, pink noise in=pink noise out you'd be right
But don't use terms like 'warmth' 'presence' or other such pretentious semi-artistic wankery.
Sound is sound.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:20, Reply)
That's quite a strange thing for a musician to say.

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:24, Reply)
Is twang club music?

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:26, Reply)
I just hope he doesn't waste his time trying out different guitars when he fancies a new one, no point, sound is sound

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:28, Reply)
Not really
There are differences in instruments, even between otherwise identical models but that's not what I'm talking about.
Reproduction of sound should be just that - reproduction of sound, nothing added or taken away. Hence the 'pink noise in=pink noise out' thing. If the system doesn't do that it is distorting the recording and you're not hearing what was actually recorded.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:28, Reply)
Yes and the quality of sound reproduction has been compromised each time the industry has moved to smaller formats with increased capacity.

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:33, Reply)
UH OH!!!
I entered the debate when I said I wouldn't
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:34, Reply)
I dunno, I'm only being obstinate.
I like records, I like the way they sound, bugger all the technical buggery.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:24, Reply)
TURN UP YA GRAMAPHONES!!

(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:18, Reply)
Without wishing to enter into a pointless debate about how, of the currently available formats for recorded music, it is a better option, I'll just say: I like records and I collect records.
And not because of the sound quality.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:19, Reply)
Nice. I'd be up for that but I suspect I won't find much classic madonna

Dunno, by my calculations the little bars are only worth £350 each so it's not worth the bother digging around really

So that's five one metre cabinets
An island would have to be at most three metres long to allow one metre clearance at each end (assuming the five metre length is the long axis) -jeez!
You must be getting cabinets made from solid Brazilian rosewood and ivory for that price
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 12:26, Reply)
You haven't allowed for any wall units, doors, drawers, probably some glass, lighting, plumbing, appliances, electrics, fitting, a plethora of closers and handle choices, carcass thickness and material but other than that yeah you're right.
Everyone should have a £599 B&Q 'Takeaway' kitchen like you.

I don't know what the kitchen in this place is - I suspect Ikea.

600mm is standard size, non?
Two ovens, 6 burner hob, integrated dishwasher, curved corner cupboards, etc.

I'm off on my holidays tomorrow.
So tonight will be nice and quiet as I'll pack my stuff, have some dinner and then sit around while lady pig takes until midnight to pack because she's weird and takes ages folding and ironing stuff. Might even pop down the pub for a pint. But not a late one as we're up early to go to Dover.

Alt:I enjoyed madeira a lot. Great wine, great sea food, lovely scenery to wander about in. Also, not swamped with English lager lads who manage to ruin everything with karaoke and only fools and horses.

Edit: although I bet you love the lager lads, probably enjoy getting bummed by them when one of them gets pissed enough to admit he's Gay, but don't tell his mates or his dad.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:06, Reply)
Madeira was lovely
Especially the sea food and winning loads of money in the casino
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 11:19, Reply)
Didn't do the casino, but I'd love to go back and have a go next time.

it's reasonably priced

Scandinavia or the Netherlands?
I thought the Netherlands was alright.

Netherlands.
It's like anywhere in the UK, tourism hotspots are more expensive than less touristy bits.

No celebrations this weekend
Bit of tiling on Saturday morning, then I'm going to that there London *shudders* to break down an exhibition stand with some work colleagues who - horror of horrors - have been there for FOUR DAYS! Sunday will be drunkenness and food - quel surprise.

Alt: Thailand. Lovely people, beautiful country.

Altalt: How bad is the traffic in central London about sixish on a Saturday?

We have a pick-up slot at 7 in the old Billingsgate market. Not looking forward to driving in London tbh, my tolerance of fuckwits isn't what it used to be

First full weekend off for absolutely fucking ages
So I'm contemplating taking my son to Drayton manor park.

Alt: Anywhere that isn't full of other holiday makers. I want to get away from it all, not just spend time in a drunker, louder, pikier version of what I see every day in a slightly warmer climate.

I do, I can see quite clearly from here that the door itself is narrower than my RED car, quite apart from the logistics of getting it to this part of the building.
I could get it in as far as the goods in bit of the warehouse.
